What We Were Called To
The situation
The property manager for an office in Botany called us about a large liquidambar in the staff car park. It had been dropping branches onto parked cars, and one limb had already cracked a windscreen. They needed it gone — but without closing the business or putting staff and visitors at risk.
The problem
The liquidambar was about 16 metres tall and stood in the middle of a busy car park. Cars, walkways and the main office entrance were all close by, and during the day there are staff and visitors coming and going the whole time. The tree had to come down safely around people and vehicles, with as little disruption as possible.
What we decided
Our Level 4 arborist visited and worked out a site safety plan with the property manager. We agreed to start early in the morning, before staff arrived, cone off that part of the car park, keep everyone clear of the work area, and take the tree down in sections rather than dropping anything.

On The Day
Method and Safety
How we did it
A four-person crew got on site early and coned off the work zone with signage. Our climber took the liquidambar apart from the top down, and the ground team roped every branch and log down into the cleared area, well away from the parked cars and walkways. We chipped as we went to keep the space clear. Because we kept the drop zone small and controlled, the rest of the car park stayed open for staff.

The Result
The liquidambar was fully removed in a day, and the car park section was reopened by early afternoon. No cars, windows or people were put at risk. We cleared all the debris, ground the stump flush, and left the car park clean and ready to use. The business carried on with barely any disruption.
